Don’t Hit that Senior NCO!

So you know when you’re given a directive that just makes no sense but you can’t dispute it because it came from your boss? My first instinct was to listen to the angry music, but I decided against it. Instead, I’ve made a bit of a fist un-clencher, if you will; a peace treaty compilation. Dim the lights, light some candles, pour a glass of wine, and feel the love. (This is another mix I recommend experiencing alone.)

1. Be Yourself Audioslave

This is one of those all around makes you content with the world songs. Which makes it a great opening act for this story. Acceptance is key.

2. The Youth MGMT

I LOVE this song, and furthermore I’m pretty fond of the album (Oracular Spectacular), there are a couple songs that are out there but, for the most part, MGMT are truly the hippies of our generation.

3. On the Eve of War Jedi Mind Tricks (Meldrick Taylor Mix)

This is one of those song that you’d think would be anything but calming, but the backdrop melody completely redirects the lyrics, all together this one will make you want to stand for something (something peaceful of course).. or smoke a joint, whichever you can get to first.

4. Our House Crosby Stills Nash and Young

Pretty self-explanatory. This song has always, and will always, put a contented smile on my face.

5. Cotton The Mountain Goats

An obvious choice for this list. Just let it all go.

6. The Past and Pending The Shins

The Shins are known for being extremely chill. This one’s very calming again in a sort of “nothing you can do about it” kind of acceptance.

7. Blackbird The Beatles

I always find it hard to say anything meaningful about Beatles songs. I like to let them speak for themselves.

8. Bowl of Oranges Bright Eyes

This one’s more about the lyrics than the music, which I usually don’t like, but this is actually one of my favorite songs (go figure) and it’s a smile maker.

9. Joga Bjork

Bjork is musical genius. I won’t be surprised if the males reading this can’t handle her, but I will be impressed if you can…

10. All the Trees of the Field will Clap their Hands Sufjan Stevens

I insist that this be the last song on this list. It’s just so ridiculously chill that you kind of just want to sit in silence afterward like “what just happened?”
